Located close to Vero river, Colungo is a magnificent place to start excursions and guided tours around the region and daily-trips to the precipice of Las Palomeras and Las Gargantas. The old-center of Colungo looks like a labyrinth and it keeps well-conservated some typical houses from the XVIth and XVIIth century; eg: Casa Notario, Casa Broto o Casa Avellanas. The church of the village, dedicated to Our Lady of the Pillar, was erected in the XVIth century, in a late gothic style. Outside, some marks in the facade will remember us that Joan Torón built it with his best workers. Traditionally, “old” wine was used as a base in the distillation of aguardiente; eNowadays, it’s a famous place for its hand-made coffee, tea and wildberries spirits, as well as for its orujo and anis.
Once in Colungo you could also learn about the amazing world of prehistory by visiting the Interpreation Center for the Cave Art.
nd last but not least, you should not leave the village without visiting the millennial olive of “Demba de Nadal”, planted by theMuslims -as some villagers say. Yearly, its owner gets an excellent harvest. Even its size it’s not taller than other olives, its trunk –barely reachable by four people- is huge compared to other trees of that kind –a perimeter of 13,65 meters. The trunk has even a little entrance so you could even guard yourself there in case of a storm. Lately it has been included in the list of Monumental Trees of Aragón. Colungo celebrates its holidays during the Pillar, and during February, 12th, Santa Eulalia’s day. |
